If your child has knocked out a baby tooth because of an accident or injury, clean the area gently and apply pressure with a washcloth or gauze (to stop any bleeding). Notify us immediately and we will schedule and appointment for an exam to ensure that no other teeth were in injured in the accident.
A knocked-out permanent tooth is a more serious issue and needs to be addressed right away. If its a whole tooth, only touch the crown (top white portion) as you rinse it gently (do not try to clean or scrub) with water and attempt to place it back into the socket it came from and have your son or daughter to hold it there with their tongue. Alternatively, store it in a small container of milk and proceed to our office or the nearest hospital immediately. Time is of the essence in these situations; The faster you act, the better your chances of saving the tooth.
