Emergency Dentistry

Emergency Dentistry is Available at Cosmic Smiles

At Cosmic Smiles we understand that dental emergencies occur often, especially with the unpredictability that can accompany kids of all ages. If your child is experiencing a sudden dental injury or severe oral pain, contact us as soon as possible at 954-246-4777. We offer extended hours as needed and will do our best to get your child treated immediately even on the weekend. No matter the issue, we are here to help!

Knocked Out Tooth – BABY TOOTH or PERMANENT TOOTH

If your child has knocked out a baby tooth because of an accident or injury, clean the area gently and apply pressure with a washcloth or gauze (to stop any bleeding). Notify us immediately and we will schedule and appointment for an exam to ensure that no other teeth were in injured in the accident.

A knocked-out permanent tooth is a more serious issue and needs to be addressed right away. If its a whole tooth, only touch the crown (top white portion) as you rinse it gently (do not try to clean or scrub) with water and attempt to place it back into the socket it came from and have your son or daughter to hold it there with their tongue. Alternatively, store it in a small container of milk and proceed to our office or the nearest hospital immediately. Time is of the essence in these situations; The faster you act, the better your chances of saving the tooth.

Broken/Fractured Tooth

Teeth have nerves and blood vessels inside of them and if they are exposed it can be a painful situation. Also, a fracture can frequently lead to nerve damage if not addressed quickly. If possible, rinse the child’s mouth gently with water, place the fractured fragment into a cup of milk and contact us immediately.

 Loose Tooth

If a tooth is very loose, it is important to call us, especially if it is a permanent tooth. Treatment will depend on location of the tooth, age of the child, and severity of injury. Soft diet and children’s pain relievers may help prior to coming in to our office.

Toothache

Toothaches can be caused by cavities, but they can also be caused by having something trapped around the tooth. Before calling us, rinse your child’s mouth with warm water and clean around the tooth with a brush and floss. If the pain continues, notify us and we’ll schedule an appointment right away.
