Check-ups & Cleanings

We strongly recommend that your son or daughter attends a preventive dentistry near you to check-up and cleaning every six months, or twice each year. Children with dental or oral issues may even be advised to come in more frequently. Younger patients coming in for their first visit will experience a short and gentle exam to clear away decay- causing plaque, while older children will benefit from a more thorough checkup and cleaning along the gum line. As your child grows, we’ll adjust their care accordingly with proper age appropriate oral hygiene recommendations and what they can do at home to preserve and protect their beautiful smile for life.

Sportsguards

We love hearing about our patients being active on the field or court. However, any young athlete who participates in sports where their smiles may come in contact with other players, hard objects, or athletic equipment puts them in a higher risk of dental trauma. That’s why Dr. Berlin strongly recommends the use of a customized, high-quality sportsguard once all permanent teeth are present. Not only are they more comfortable then the generic “one-size-fits-all” from the stores, they also provide the best protection during games and practices and you can feel more at ease while watching them play a sport they love!

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral commonly found in toothpaste and drinking water. It helps by making the teeth more resistant to the build-up of decay causing plaque and sugars. It can also speed up the remineralization process in which tooth enamel is built back up. At each check-up, we provide professional fluoride application based on caries risk assessment to benefit your child’s oral health and reduce the threat of tooth decay for a safer, happier smile. While fluoride is safe and effective, it can be dangerous in high doses. Dr. Berlin will be happy to talk with you about the amount of fluoride your child should be receiving and make recommendations about the correct amount when used at home.
