Restorative Dentistry Restores Smiles

Restorative dentistry fort lauderdale describes methods and management that a dentist performs on your mouth to maintain your mouth functional and healthy. These methods include fillingings, inserting dental prosthetics, crowns, and dentures. This type of dentistry doesn’t require specific specialization; instead, it simply refers to the corrective and preventative measures that most regular practice dentists take to ensure that our teeth remain healthy. Let’s learn more about restorative dentistry and its importance to overall oral health.

Dental injuries and pain can be a frightening experience for children, but our pediatric team provides a welcoming and nurturing environment for all of our patients. For restorative dentistry, we utilize the latest techniques including customized, high-quality restorations such as tooth-colored fillings to blend beautifully with your child’s smile. From the friendly & welcoming environment in our reception area to the cosmic theme throughout the office, no detail is too small when your child’s comfort is concerned. If your child feels anxious at any moment during treatment, nitrous oxide is available which can help them relax.

 Pediatric Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a covering that will cover and protect the entire surface of a tooth like a “cap”, allowing it to function just like the original tooth. Crowns are used when a cavity, injury or deformities/cosmetic flaws have affected so much tooth structure that the filling material cannot be used to fix the tooth. Normally, crowns will last until the baby teeth naturally fall out. We offer two types of crowns: stainless steel (silver) and esthetic ( tooth colored). Stainless steel crowns are extremely durable and are easy to maintain. Very seldom does this restoration fail or need to be redone. White crowns have the same task as silver caps, but they blend beautifully with your child’s natural pearly whites. If your child requires a crown, Dr. Berlin will discuss the pros and cons of each type. If your child feels anxious at any moment during treatment, nitrous oxide is available which can help them relax.

Baby Root Canals (aka pulpotomies or pulpectomies)

Very large cavities involving the nerve (pulp) can result in toothaches and nerve irritation or infection. Although the pain may actually lessen using ibuprofen or antibiotics, it will return unless the tooth is correctly treated. A pediatric root canal procedure is referred to as a “pulpotomy”. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (nerve and blood supply), bacteria and any decay are removed, and the resulting space is filled with a biocompatible & antibacterial material. Once baby root canal is completed, the tooth is weakened and we will place a crown to protect your child’s tooth from any further damage and give the tooth the best chance for success. Though primary teeth eventually exfoliate they are needed for child’s speech development, esthetics, chewing and proper alignment of permanent teeth. Nitrous Oxide is available for children who need a little extra help relaxing during this restorative treatment.

Extractions

A tooth extraction can sound like a very scary thing at any age. At Cosmic Smiles, we always aim to maintain your child’s healthy, natural teeth through the years but often removing a tooth is the best solution to prevent infection and protect overall oral health. Some teeth are extracted because they are so badly decayed that a root canal can’t save it or fractured beyond repair or if they are crowding other teeth and the child is in preparation for orthodontic treatment. Nitrous Oxide is available to help keep your son or daughter completely comfortable throughout the process.
